PLACE IS NOT IMPORTANT (2009-2011)

50 photographs

For the project "Place is not important", I collected my motifs in three different locations - Paris, Odessa and Istanbul.

Those images don´t correspond to the usual stereotypes of those places and offer a high degree on interchangeability.

The photographs should not reflect the place, but transfer some location-independence. The images, taken with Rolleiflex SL 66 film-camera, show quite normal situations, which can be found on different locations in the world.

Der Schlüsselpunkt der fotografischen Arbeit von Julia Smirnova ist die Zeit- und Ortsunabhängigkeit. Jedes ihrer Bilder steht für sich allein. Gemeinsam bilden die einzelne Fotografien eine geschlossene Serie. Unter dem Namen "The place is not important" erforschte Julia in dem dreijährigen Projekt die Zusammenhänge zwischen der visuellen Realität, ihrer eigenen Wahrnehmung und vorgeprägter kultureller Erwartung.
